SUMMARY:Restoration Reset: Volunteer Training at Barton Creek Greenbelt
DESCRIPTION:Howdy! Put on your shoes and grab your water bottle as you head out the door to join Austin Parks Foundation, Siglo Group and Austin Parks and Recreation to learn all about invasive and trail management and restoration at the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Homedale Trailhead!\nThis training is designed to share knowledge and skills to lead impactful restoration volunteer projects not just at the Greenbelt, but any natural area in need of care. This hands-on workshop will cover essential topics to ensure safe, effective and sustainable park stewardship. We will be utilizing Nature Steward as an educational resource as well as an opportunity to learn about all our volunteer work in the Greenbelt and its impact. We look forward to building a stronger stewardship community together!\nWorkshop Focus Areas\n\nInvasive Species Management: Identification and techniques for managing woody and grass invasives, girdling, weedwrenches and seeding\nTrail Maintenance: Erosion control methods like water bars, rolling dips, trail armoring, and drainage fixes, plus trail retirement and brushing\n\nWhy Attend?\n\nGain effective skills leading volunteer efforts to maintain and improve parkland.\nLearn sustainable practices for invasive species management and trail maintenance.\nCollaborate with experts and community partners to support long-term stewardship goals.\n\nWhen: Saturday, September 12th: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM\nWhere: Barton Creek Greenbelt, Homedale Trailhead: 2010 Homedale Dr. Austin, TX 78704\nGetting there: Please find parking next all along Homedale Drive and in the Barton Hills Elementary School parking lot on Homedale Dr.\nWhat to bring: Closed toe shoes, a FULL water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and comfortable outdoor clothing (preferably long pants and sleeves for protection). We will provide all tools and gloves – if you have your own gardening or work gloves you are welcome to bring them.  Please note that our activity for the day will involve walking on uneven terrain, slopes and wet/muddy surfaces.\n\nIn the event of dangerous inclement weather such as lightning, hail, or strong winds/ rain, APF staff will direct volunteers to vacate the site immediately. \n
