The numbers are in! On September 27, National Public Lands Day volunteers and project leaders gathered after a morning of park projects in Rosewood Park to celebrate with food, drinks and live music. To further this event’s commitment to the environment, APF and Texas Conservation Corps teamed up with Ecology Action and the East Side Compost Pedallers to make the party a zero waste event.
What is zero waste?
Zero waste is a policy-driven movement to stop putting waste into our landfills through the redesign, reuse and recycling of consumer goods. The City of Austin s zero waste goal is 90% diversion of all waste from the landfill by 2040 through increases in recycling, composting and other reuse practices.
The 2014 NPLD party had a 97% diversion rate by recycling or composting over 350 pounds of waste!
