Scenic Brook Pocket Park

Scenic Brook Pocket Park Project summary

Located at 7300 Oak Meadow Drive, Scenic Brook Pocket Park is approximately 0.89 acres of undeveloped parkland in Council District 8.  For many years, the land was used as a private community playground and pool for paying residents of the surrounding neighborhood.

Eventually the upkeep became too much for the community and the pool was closed, leaving only the deteriorated playground and sports court open for use.  The private park has hosted a thriving community garden in the past as well. In 2016, the Scenic Brook Neighborhood Association deeded the land to the City of Austin, with hopes that issues of safety could be addressed and the land could serve as the greater area as a public park and greenspace.

While the City of Austin agreed the demolish the failing amenities on site, the park lacked a plan for the future.  In the Spring of 2019, the Scenic Brook and South Windmill Run Neighborhood Associations applied for design services from Austin Parks Foundation for Overall Park Planning services. The park was awarded this service in July of 2019.

Project Goals & Construction Timeline

Austin Parks Foundation committed to completing the Overall Park Planning to guide the future of the park through adoption by the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD).
