COVID-19 Update: It’s My Park Day Will Go On As Scheduled

AustinParksFoundationIt's My Park Day, APF News

Some of you may have seen the recent announcement from Mayor Adler around SXSW. Based on this, we wanted to update you on our plans for It's My Park Day.

It’s My Park Day Will Go On As Scheduled on Saturday, March 7th

Please remember that It’s My Park Day is not a mass-participation event at a single location. We have nearly 110 different projects at various outdoor locations across the city of relatively small groups, most of them between 25 to 50 people.

All volunteer tasks will be performed individually and not in close and sustained proximity with one another. The majority of projects have been supplied with work gloves that have been dry cleaned. To ensure that every volunteer has gloves, please bring your own if you have them.

We understand this is a fluid situation and we want our volunteers to feel comfortable. We understand and respect if anyone decides to not participate. The health and welfare of our staff and volunteers is of the utmost importance. As a precautionary measure, if you are feeling sick we ask volunteers to please stay home.

How Can You Protect Yourself?

From Austin Public Health:

To help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including flu and COVID-19, follow these measures:

  • Fist bumps and elbow touches only! Please avoid hugs and high fives.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
