People of the Parks: Reed Family

It’s time to meet our next People of the Parks! This is a new series that celebrates the different ways Austinites utilize our parks to connect with nature.

For the Reed family (Charla, Richard, Myles and Margaux) it was important to find a space where the entire family could unwind, connect and enjoy the outdoors together. They found it at Balcones District Park.

Balcones District Park offers fun for everyone – with creeks, walking trails and a playscape. They’ve spent time at Balcones since their oldest child, Myles, was a toddler. In that time, they’ve seen the park grow with added trails, an updated playscape and more.

“When I think about parks, I think of welcoming spaces that offer something for everyone – whether it’s a quiet spot to relax, a place to exercise or an area to gather with others. They’re places where families create memories, friends gather and individuals find moments of peace.”

You can find the Reed family spending weeknights and weekend mornings walking the trails or enjoying playtime at the playscape. Having a variety of park amenities in one space (and updated ones at that!) results in the perfect blend of relaxation and fun.

Their daughter, Margaux, loves the ladybug spring rider and swings: she loves trying to swing as high as her brother, Myles. Charla and Richard split their time between swinging with Margaux and playing ALL the sports with Myles.

“It’s an affordable and convenient way to enjoy the outdoors, interact with others, and stay active. They help build a sense of community, support mental and physical well-being, and make Austin a more vibrant and livable city for everyone.”
