AUSTIN, TEXAS (February 6, 2019) – Austin Parks Foundation is thrilled to announce that the nonprofit’s annual city-wide volunteer event, It’s My Park Day (IMPD), is kicking off this year with the spring date set for Saturday, March 2.

Presented by Wheatsville Food Co-Op, It’s My Park Day will bring together thousands of Austinites to help improve and transform more than 100 different parks, trails and greenbelts throughout the city, including Barton Creek Greenbelt, Shoal Creek, Waller Creek, Bouldin Creek, Mount Bonnell, and more. Volunteer projects will include city-approved tree mulching, root collar clearing, habitat restoration, and trail maintenance, as well as park and creek cleanups. Last November, over 2,000 Austinites participated in the fall edition of IMPD at over 80 park projects throughout Austin.

“Over the past 27 years, we have brought together tens of thousands of Austinites to improve and enhance our local parks,” said Colin Wallis, CEO of Austin Parks Foundation. “Our commitment to providing high-quality volunteer experiences that allow Austinites to give back to their neighborhood green spaces is invaluable to our city. Over the span of a few hours and nearly 100 projects across town, we provide community members the unique experience of lending a hand in the preservation and maintenance of the green spaces that enhance our lives on a daily basis.”

Community members are encouraged to register now to volunteer for specific park improvement projects happening across Austin on It’s My Park Day. Every pre-registered volunteer gets a free t-shirt designed by local artist, Mila Sketch. For more information and to register today, please visit https://austinparks.org/IMPD.

Local restaurants and businesses across the city will participate in It’s My Park Day by offering a special giveback to all volunteers. After participants are finished volunteering, they simply need to show up with their volunteer t-shirt on March 2nd at any of the partner locations to receive freebies and discounts. Some of the participating restaurants, including Austin Daily Press, Bird Bird Biscuit, Scholz Garten, Peached Tortilla and Snarf’s Sandwiches, will offer freebies, while Cosmic Coffee, Counter Culture, Crux Climbing Center, Growler USA, Poke Poke and Shake Shack will have great discounts to take advantage of. During the fall edition of IMPD, over 40 businesses participated. Additional participants will be added in the coming weeks. For the growing list of partners and updates on special offers, please visit https://austinparks.org/IMPD.

It’s My Park Day was established more than 15 years ago and takes place twice a year on the first Saturday of March and November. Over the past five years, more than twenty-thousand volunteers have invested thousands of hours’ worth of labor that in turn has contributed to over a million dollars’ worth of park maintenance, saving our under-funded Parks & Recreation department time and money.
