Community Volunteer Event: Sprucing Up Overton Elementary School Garden

Howdy! Put on your shoes and grab your water bottle as you head out the door to join us for our community volunteer event at Overton Elementary School Garden. Join friends, family and community members as we work together to uplift and revitalize Overton garden.

Project Goals: Our main task for the day focuses on revitalizing the raised garden beds within the garden and the surrounding area. Revitalization of the garden includes weed pulling of invasive plants, clearing the garden beds of grasses and any other projects or maintenance that the garden space may need.

What to Bring:

• Please bring plenty of drinking water and fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day. Electrolyte beverages and snacks encouraged!
• Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate gear for outdoor activities and uneven terrain.
  • All volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes.
  • We recommend wearing long pants with ankle coverage for protection against irritants, bugs, and other environmental hazards.
  • Sun protection including a broad-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and light-colored, lightweight clothing are recommended.
  • Bug Spray is recommended to prevent bug bites.

Where to Meet: Please meet at the back of Overton Elementary School here to get started with introductions and our project for the day!

Parking: Parking will be available in front and around the school.

In the event of dangerous inclement weather such as lightning, hail, or strong winds/ rain, APF staff will direct volunteers to vacate the site immediately. 

¡Hola! Únase a nuestro evento comunitario gratuito en el jardín de la escuela primaria overton. Invite a sus amigos, familiares y miembros de la comunidad para trabajar juntos y revitalizar el jardín.

Objetivos del proyecto: Nuestra tarea principal del día se centra en revitalizar los bancales elevados del jardín y sus alrededores. La revitalización incluye remover plantas invasoras, limpiar los bancales de pasto y cualquier otro proyecto o mantenimiento que el jardín pueda necesitar.

Qué traer:

Por favor, traigan abundante agua y líquidos para mantenerse hidratados durante todo el día. ¡Se recomiendan bebidas con electrolitos!

Por favor, usen ropa cómoda y adecuada para el clima para actividades al aire libre y terrenos irregulares.

Todos los voluntarios deben usar zapatos cerrados.

Recomendamos usar pantalones largos que cubran los tobillos para protegerse de irritantes, insectos y otros peligros ambientales.

Se recomienda usar protección solar, incluyendo un sombrero de ala ancha, bloqueador solar y ropa ligera y de colores claros.

Se recomienda usar repelente de insectos para prevenir picaduras de insectos.

Estacionamiento: Habrá estacionamiento disponible frente a la escuela y sus alrededores.

En caso de inclemencias climáticas peligrosas, como rayos, granizo o fuertes vientos o lluvias, el personal de APF indicará a los voluntarios que desalojen el sitio inmediatamente.
