We all share a desire to see our neighbors experiencing homelessness receive the help they need, including access to shelter with the compassion and care they deserve.
As Austin considers Prop B this May, we want to reiterate that camping on public parkland, with the exception of those specifically set up for camping reservations, has always been prohibited. Whether Prop B passes or fails, camping in parks and greenbelts will remain prohibited, as it has under both the current and former city ordinances.
For the past 29 years, our mission has been to protect and promote the future of Austin’s parks, trails and green spaces. It is clear that regardless of the outcome of the May election, the Parks & Recreation Dept. will need our support more than ever.
Our mission has always been focused on creating equitable access to great parks for all Austinites. As we work to help fill the City's funding and resource gap for Austin's nearly 300 parks, we will remain committed to assisting PARD and their partners in effectively maintaining clean and safe parks for all of our city's residents, and advocating for the funding our parks need.
