We couldn't be more thankful for the Austinites that helped their local parks during It's My Park Day Spring 2021, presented by Wheatsville Food Co-op. From Saturday, June 5th to Sunday, June 13th, 815 people volunteered in-person and 158 completed our virtual volunteer activities!
It was such a thrill to have in-person projects in parks across Austin for the first It's My Park Day since March 2020, right before the COVID-19 pandemic began. From mulching trees to trash clean ups, hundreds of in-person volunteers completed 43 different projects on Saturday, June 12th. Thank you for powering through a super hot day to help your local parks, trails and green spaces!
Because in-person projects were limited due to public health regulations, we created a bunch of virtual opportunities to give back to the parks! Our virtual activities encouraged people to get outside and enjoy outdoor spaces, learn about our city's parks system, advocate for more and improved outdoor spaces and much more.
We're dreaming of the day when we can put thousands of volunteers in the parks again. That being said, we're already getting excited for It's My Park Day in the Fall, and we hope you are too! Stayed tuned for more information as we get closer to the first Saturday in November.
IMPD Spring 2021 T-shirts
We'll be mailing IMPD Spring 2021 t-shirts to those who completed 5 virtual activities and filled out the verification form or made a donation! Need to update your contact information? Didn't get a shirt at your in-person project? Please send us your name, shirt size and address to tshirts@austinparks.org by Friday, June 18th, and we will mail it to you within the next few weeks!
A Special Message from Austin FC
In case you missed it, It's My Park Day volunteers received a special message from two of Austin's very own: Jared Stroud and Rodney Redes from Austin FC! What a fantastic way to kick off a week of giving back to our city's parks, trails and green spaces. Check out the video below!
Austin ParksCast: IMPD Spring 2021 Edition
In the IMPD Spring 2021 episode of the Austin ParksCast, we have a conversation with Austin artist Ken Rudolph! We talked about the design he created for our It's My Park Day t-shirt as well as his involvement in the Pillars Project at Rosewood Park.
