Volunteer: Tree Planting at Gus Garcia Pt. 1
Howdy! Put on your shoes and grab your water bottle as you head out the door to join Austin Parks Foundation to care for Gus Garcia Park. Austin Parks Foundation is excited to partner with the Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry Division to support one of our city’s most precious resources- trees!
Project Goals: Help support Austin’s urban tree canopy through tree planting! Volunteers will learn proper techniques for tree planting, follow up care, and practice tree planting skills around the park.
What to bring: Closed toe shoes, a FULL water bottle and comfortable outdoor clothing (preferably long pants and sleeves) a must. Snacks, sunscreen, bug spray recommended. We will provide all tools and gloves – if you have your own gardening or work gloves you are welcome to bring them!
Where we will begin: We’ll meet at the Gus Garcia Rec Center at 9AM to get started with introductions and a demonstration!
Where to park: Please feel free to park in the Rec Center parking lot.
Accessibility: Please note that our activity for the day will involve walking on uneven terrain, slopes and wet/muddy surfaces.
SAFETY: We encourage you to “See and Be Seen!” Be mindful of your fellow volunteers and maintain awareness of your surroundings at all times. Dial 911 in case of emergency.
In the event of dangerous inclement weather such as lightning, hail, or strong winds/ rain, Austin Parks Foundation staff will direct volunteers to vacate the site immediately.
