Austin Parks Foundation at a Glance – Volunteer Opportunities

Earlier this year we shared an overview of programming, projects and work that APF is committed to each year. As we continue to share our mission, we want to dive deeper into these aspects and provide as much information as possible to help you get involved with making our parks, trails and green spaces better!

It’s National Volunteer Week so let’s start there…

Austin Parks Foundation offers an array of volunteer opportunities. From It’s My Park Day to Open Workdays and Corporate Volunteer projects – WE’VE GOT THEM ALL!

In 2022 alone, APF coordinated over 9,000 volunteers in parks across the city.

It’s My Park Day is our city-wide volunteer event taking place on the first Saturday in March and November! We have 3,000+ volunteers that tackle 75-100 projects across the city. These projects range from mulching trees, planting trees, trash pickup, trail clearance and much more. It’s My Park Day strives to get friends, neighbors and Austinites into the parks to make a difference and create relationships that grow. In 2022 we completed 190 projects with the help of 6,358 volunteers! This translates to $559,020 in value with 10,389 total volunteer hours logged.

Not only do you get to make a difference in the parks – you’ll receive a coveted It’s My Park Day t-shirt, discounts and freebies from local giveback partners, and a great opportunity to bond with your community. We just wrapped our Spring It’s My Park Day, take a look at all our volunteers accomplished:

Open Workdays:

If you’re looking to volunteer regularly – our Open Workdays may be the option for you. Each month we host an open workday to improve a park, trail or green space. These projects are at various parks throughout the year and go a long way for the local community. Workday projects are similar to It’s My Park Day projects – mulching, trash pickup and planting. These projects are led by an APF staff member from our Programs team and allow volunteers insight into all we’re able to provide to our parks!

Corporate Volunteer Day:

Come two, come all for a custom corporate volunteer project for 2-100 participants! For a small donation of $25 per person, your team can enjoy a day outside as an APF staff member leads a project that supports access to safe and beautiful parks.

Donations cover the cost of materials provided by APF like tools, mulch, gloves, etc.
