National Volunteer Month just wrapped…and WOW! In April, we hosted Community Volunteer Events, corporate volunteers and an Earth Day project. Take a look at the impact:
April 3
Corporate Volunteer Event, Preacher at Garrison District Park –Â Employees from Preacher helped remove invasive species and reseeded the park. They were able to remove Nandina and Hedge Parsley. Before heading out, they did a quick trash pickup.
April 6
Community Volunteer Event at Wooldridge School Park –Â Volunteers from the University of Texas Go Green Organization helped with tree care and mulching at Wooldridge School Park and around the soccer pitch.
April 11
Corporate Volunteer Event, GoodPop at Rosewood Neighborhood Park –Â GoodPop hosted an event with their employees and the public to celebrate National Good Deeds Day. Volunteers spent time at Rosewood Neighborhood Park helping to clean up litter on park grounds and along the creek.
April 17
Community Volunteer Event at Gracywoods Neighborhood Park –Â 100 student volunteers from Texas School for the Deaf spent time giving back to this green space through trash pickup and tree mulching.
April 18
Community Volunteer Event at Bull Creek District Park –Â Alumni from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst helped to refresh and mulch the Nature Play area at Bull Creek District Park.
April 22
Community Volunteer Event at Kendra Page Neighborhood Park on Earth Day –Â Four corporate groups (Campbell’s, ERIS, Austin Chamber of Commerce and Austin Rail Constructors) showed up ready to tackle tree mulching, Nature Play restoration and invasive species removal throughout Kendra Page Neighborhood Park.Â
April 24
Community Volunteer Event at Red Bluff Preserve – The Austin Parks and Recreation Land Management Team invited APF to collaborate on a civic event with a group of students from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School that are part of an outdoor education program. Students showed up at Red Bluff Preserve and helped remove invasive species (ligustrum) from the wooded areas of the park.Â
April 24
Community Volunteer Event at Rosewood Neighborhood Park and Boggy Creek Greenbelt – Every year, students from Lee Elementary pick an ecological topic they’d like to tackle. This year, they wanted to clean up waterways, so APF organized a trash cleanup at Rosewood Neighborhood Park and Boggy Creek Greenbelt. They picked up trash throughout the greenbelt and helped to prevent future waterway pollution.
April 24
Corporate Volunteer Event, AlertMedia at Blunn Creek Greenbelt – Volunteers from AlertMedia picked up trash throughout the Blunn Creek Greenbelt.
April 24
Corporate Volunteer Event, Bespoke Partners at Pan American Park – Volunteers from Bespoke Partners helped with tree care by mulching trees at Pan American Park in preparation for the hot summer months.
We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again in the future: THANK YOU to our volunteers! Y’all truly make Austin’s parks, trails and green spaces better. Learn how YOU can become a volunteer here.
