Spring Community Grant Recipients Announced

Funding will be used for various community-initiated Austin parks improvements, renovations, and construction projects

AUSTIN, TX (July 13) Austin Parks Foundation (APF) is thrilled to announce their 2017 Austin City Limits Music Festival Park Grants Program spring grantees that will receive over $240,000 in collective funding to improve various Austin parks, trails, and greenspaces. Projects involved include new community pavilions, improved playscapes, park irrigation systems, trails, and more. “Over the past 12 years, APF has provided nearly $3 million in community-initiated grants to park adopters and park champions across the city,” said Ladye Anne Wofford, APF’s Chief Mission Officer. “We’re excited so many local groups are working hard to improve their neighborhood parks, and we’re happy to provide financial support so their visions can become reality.”

In total, APF is giving $240,950 in community grants for the Foundation’s spring cycle to the following parks and green spaces:

  • Wooten Park ($70,000): North Austin park to build a new community pavilion
  • Hartford Park ($50,000): brand new park development for West Austin neighborhood pocket park
  • Oak Springs Elementary School Park ($50,000): playscape equipment to replace East Austin school playground recently destroyed in a fire
  • Wright Field ($12,950): irrigation system to support little league fields at Zilker Park
  • Cunningham Elementary School Park ($8,000): new water fountain at South Austin park
  • Spyglass Trailhead at Barton Creek Greenbelt ($50,000): redeveloped trailhead for the Barton Creek Greenbelt

APF’s Community Grants are intended for larger community-initiated physical park improvement projects that require between $5,000 and $50,000 in funding. These grants are offered twice a year with a grant period of 12 months, and are awarded through a competitive process. These grants have been given by APF since 2006 with the goal of supporting projects like signage installations, trail building and planning, and physical improvements and maintenance.

The deadline for the APF Impact Grant, an annual grant of $100,000 to support large community-initiated physical park improvements, is August 4. Soon following is the deadline for Fall Community Grant applications on September 30.
