Austin Parks Foundation amplifies D9
This year for Amplify Austin, our city’s 24-hour giving frenzy, we’re highlighting the breadth of our work. We’ll share stories of projects from each district throughout the month of February so you can see how we’re Amplifying a green space near you!
Today, we’re showing off how your gifts Amplify Shipe Park.
Restoration of historic log cabin to Amplify Shipe Park
Shipe Park, located in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood, is a local favorite. With a great location, and lots of park amenities, there’s ample opportunity for outdoor activities.
The log cabin, built in the 1930’s, has seen better days, but with help from APF a total restoration is on the horizon. The building, which is now houses bathrooms for both the pool and park, will get updates to its exterior and interior. The deteriorating roof will receive a new roof deck and structural support. Also, new chinking will help seal the joints between the wooden logs. Additional waterproofing will take place as necessary, to ensure the longevity of this project, and the interior of the cabin will see updates that include ADA accessible bathrooms.
The project, which is estimated to be completed in summer of 2018, will help preserve Austin’s history while also improving the park, and the experiences of those who visit it.
