Projects at Spyglass Trailhead are helping to amplify parkland in Austin
This year for Amplify Austin, our city’s 24-hour giving frenzy, we’re highlighting the breadth of our work. We’ll share stories of projects from each district throughout the month of February so you can see how we’re Amplifying a green space near you!
This week we’re shining a light on upcoming improvements at the Spyglass Trailhead
Spyglass Trailhead at the Barton Creek Greenbelt
Much needed updates are underway at the Spyglass Trailhead. Currently, this access point is an undeveloped, gravel path which has had little maintenance over the years. Updates to the trailhead will begin with a gated emergency entrance and an ADA accessible ramp. Following this, construction will begin to create an entrance, with stone columns, limestone steps, and a crushed decomposed granite trail. Then, a split rail fence will guide people past an information kiosk, trash and recycling bins, and bike racks.
This project has come to life through a collaboration between many groups: Friends of Spyglass Trailhead, Hill Country Conservancy, Greenbelt Guardians, and Austin Ridge Riders. Austin Parks Foundation is happy to provide funding for projects which will greatly benefit so many Austin residents and visitors. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a beautiful stretch of land visited by many people, and the Spyglass entrance should reflect this. Also, having a trailhead that accommodates thousands of visitors is essential to maintaining and amplifying this space.
