Republic Square: Bollard Installation Finished
Our new stone bollards now ring the Auction Oaks portion of Republic Square! These massive limestone blocks double as seats and will be connected with heavy chain shortly. We’re very excited about this task being completed. Only a few things left to do in this phase of work at Republic Square.
100 Trees for Pease!
On Saturday, Feb 21, several hundred volunteers converged on Pease Park to plant the first 100 trees for Pease. It took a village to get them purchased, placed, planted and irrigated! We’d like to thank the following for all of their hard work: • Richard Craig, who formed Trees for Pease, raised the bulk of the funds (nearly $20,000 to …

Republic Auction Oaks – 1969 and Present

You can see that there’s precious little space around the central auction oak in the foreground. Update on the Auction Oaks at Republic Square Project as of Monday, 1/12/09. Our contractor is installing new irrigation in the portions of the park that had berm removal – about 1/2 of the site and they are about 50% completed. In addition, installation of the four remaining big trees has begun with four really big holes dug and awaiting …
Zilker: That’s a lot of dillo dirt!
Over a week ago (12.27.08), the Parks department began work on the big Zilker irrigation project -essentially leveling the site, installing 17,000 feet of irrigation pipes and 42 acres of sod! The first big project is to add soil amendments – in this case, Dillo Dirt – a compost blend made by the city with yard waste trimmings and composted …
Republic Update: 1/5/09
Happy belated New Year to all! A quick update on our Auction Oaks project – the path installation is nearly complete and we’re working to get the right big trees installed – a big red oak should be planted shortly along with another four trees shortly there after. Then its irrigation, seeding and the stone bollards and chain enclosure. More …
12/18 Republic Square Project Update
Hey, what’s that stuff falling from the sky? Rain? We’ll take even a little light rain. Prior to that, our contractors were working on installing the metal edging for the path around the auction oaks, as well as digging holes for the four big trees that should be planted in the next few days. Here’s a few pictures of …
