Anytime a public resource like a park or recreation center becomes more accessible, there’s reason for celebration. For certain guests of McBeth Recreation Center in Zilker Park, there was an essential piece missing. Until now, that is! Austin Parks Foundation is proud to present the new, ADA compliant entrance ramp at McBeth Recreation Center!
We’re excited to be a part of allowing better access to McBeth’s facilities and programming for individuals with differing abilities. This project was made possible by a $25,000 Community Grant in conjunction with the Accessible Trail Fund and APF Board. The ramp is currently undergoing final touches and will be accessible very soon. Take a look at the new ramp:
About Danny G. McBeth Recreation Center
The recreation center was named after Danny G. McBeth, an advocate for rights and services for people with differing abilities in the Austin community. Since 1986, McBeth provides individuals of all abilities the opportunity to improve their skills, build confidence, and socialize. Some exciting opportunities at McBeth Recreation Center include:
- Adaptive Sports Programs including bowling, volleyball, basketball, aquatics, and more.
- Practices for groups focused on participating in local and state Special Olympics competitions.
- Year-round programs for teens and adults including after school, spring break, summer day camps, and the Good Neighbor Adventure Club.
