Our Park Improvement Education Series, or P.I.E.S., is a series of eight free workshops made possible by Chipotle Mexican Grill. Topics include mulching and root collar clearing, water design, and habitat restoration. This November 8 and 15 we will conclude our 2014 P.I.E.S. with two back-to-back weekend Trail Education and Stewardship Training workshops.
Members of the Austin Ridge Riders will be leading the trail workshops. They have been working creating and rehabilitating the Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park trails for most of 2014, and other mountain bike trail projects for many years.
These workshops will feature methods and techniques for trail crew management—including safe and effective strategies to lead and manage volunteers on a trail project—plus you will have the opportunity to be a part of making a brand new trail.
You can also expect to learn a lot about how to lead a crew safely through a project, how to make sure your entire project team is prepared and to inspire your volunteers. These are skills applicable to ALL park improvement projects.
And all P.I.E.S. workshop attendees will get to enjoy some delicious pizza pie for lunch.

In case you can’t make it to our final workshops, we’re taking lessons learned to produce an even better series in 2015. Stay tuned for 2015 P.I.E.S. details in the near future!
