Well, maybe not the first, but certainly one to consider. The Austin Parks Foundation will be hosting two volunteer workdays – on Sat, Jan 15th and Mon, Jan 17th, (9 am to noon both days) to celebrate volunteering on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We’ll be working on Barton Creek Greenbelt (meeting at the Spyglass Access Trailhead) and will be removing and cutting up invasive trees and plants along the trail. These workdays are some of the 25 workdays we are organizing between Sept 2010 and December 2011 as part of our Barton Creek Trail Corps Project, a yearlong effort to rehabilitate portions of the trail and the adjoining environment.
Please wear appropriate clothes (long pants, long sleeved shirt, closed toed shoes) and bring a water bottle. We’ll have gloves, saws, weed wrenches and other tools to help us in our efforts. We’ll also have water jugs and extra work gloves. Sign up on our website for either (or both!) Sat, Jan 15th and Mon, Jan 17th. We’re hoping to have 50-100 people at each workday, so come out and spend a few hours with us!
