Auction Oaks Project Update
Part one work in progress update: Bartlett Tree Experts have uncovered all four street tree root collars using their air spades and digging Monday and Tuesday. All of the trees are extremely root bound, meaning while they haven’t grown into the berms (good), they are less desirable candidates for transplanting. Over the past day or two, a Parks Department Forestry Crew has been pruning the Auction Oaks and chipping up the deadwood in preparation for the first phase of the Auction Oaks @ Republic Square restoration project. Today, Thu, 7/17, we got the chain link fence installed around the work area. The graphic here shows the fence location. You can …

We want to let you know about an Austin Parks Foundation project that we are about to kick off at Republic Square Park at 5th, Guadalupe, 4th and San Antonio Sts. downtown that involves some restoration and rehabilitation for some old and threatened trees – the Auction Oaks at Republic Square. Day 4: Red Bud Shoreline Project
Things are really moving along with native rocks now wedged into both sides of the steps where it ties into the bank. I got there too late to meet up with E-Corps, but they’ll be back Monday (they take Fridays off in the summer) with another two days worth of work to complete. In the meantime, check out a few …
Day 3: Red Bud Shoreline Project
Just back from another trip to Red Bud, and apart from my camera’s drained batteries, Things are looking really good. All of the steps are in place, e-corps is now working on fitting rocks into the sides of the steps to lock everything in securely and then will be working on filling the area behind the steps with rock, gravel …
Day 2: Red Bud Isle Project
E-Corps and Rico from PARD made tremendous progress on Tuesday, with three rows of rock steps put into place, the first way down into the water (they got there very early to dig out the rock and dirt.) It’s looking good! Another four folks are working on removing and treating all of the invasive tree stumps that we cut on …
Red Bud Isle – Shoreline Erosion Project Begins
The second of two shoreline erosion projects has begun at Red Bud Isle. Funds from the Foundation as well as those raised by the Friends of Red Bud Isle totaling over $9,000 will reconstruct a portion of the shoreline, making it easy for dogs and people to enter and exit Lake Lady Bird. When completed, it will look like this: …
Williamson Creek Greenbelt Central
Neighbors of the greenspace at Emerald Wood and South 1st have been working on improvements to their park for a long time – even though their park didn’t even seem to have a name! At long last, they have a sign officially indicating the area’s status as parkland. In the past few years, neighbors have cleaned tons of trash out …
Great Information on Town Lake Birds
At the mouth of Shoal Creek and Lady Bird Lake, also known as Shoal beach, there’s a great kiosk with some good information on native birds who populate the area. This was an eagle scout project done in collaboration with the Town Lake Trail Foundation and the City’s Parks and Recreation Dept.
