Our tagline is people + parks, and we take that to heart. We know the people we work with, both inside and outside the office, are what make this organization successful, and we’re proud of the team we’ve put together. Each of us is committed to making Austin’s parks, trails and green spaces great for each and every Austinite. Read up on this month’s featured APF staff member, and stay tuned for more throughout the year!

Name: Barry Rivera

Title:

Volunteer Coordinator

What He Does:

Barry coordinates all volunteer projects, including It’s My Park Day, large group projects and custom work days!

Time at APF:

5 months

Favorite park:

Little Stacy – it always feels like a hidden gem straight out of Middle Earth to me! I love the big Live Oaks, cozy spots to chill, the basketball, tennis and volleyball courts and of course the wading pool.

Favorite thing about being on the APF Staff:

I love the focus on community building and park stewardship because in a big, busy and growing city we can all tend to overlook the needs of our own neighbors and neighborhoods.

Favorite park memory:

Climbing and swimming at The Greenbelt for the first time. It just blew my mind that I could ride my bike here and feel so “away from it all.”

Fun Fact:

In the summer of 2012, I rode my bike from Portland, ME to Santa Barbara, CA with 33 others to raise money and awareness for affordable housing.
