Gracywoods Neighborhood Park, located in northwest Austin, was in desperate need of repair. The nearby community is growing, and the park couldn’t meet demand. The playscape was old and broken, and the safety surfacing had large holes, making the park unsafe for children.
Fall 2017 marked a turning point for Gracywoods. With the support of The Gracywoods Neighborhood association, Bill Glass, Frannie Sanchez and many parents in the neighborhood rallied around the park and applied for a Community Grant, earning $42,500. Since then, neighborhood fundraising and parkland dedication funds have matched this sum, expanding the scope of proposed work beyond a new shade structure and safety surfacing.
Due to the tireless efforts of Friends of Gracywoods Park, the updated park will match the growing neighborhood. When the project is finished and fully funded, Gracywoods will have a great new playscape and better ADA access, in addition to a new shade structure and refinished safety surfacing.
After the park is complete, Friends of Gracywoods Park are planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony. They are excited to see their dream become a reality and finally gather as a community in this park for years to come!
