It was incredible to see 2,895 Austinites helping local parks, trails, green spaces and community gardens on Saturday, March 5th. Austin Parks Foundation is grateful to everyone who participated and continually blown away by the generosity of our city! This was our first full-fledged, 100% in-person It’s My Park Day event since Spring 2020, and we couldn’t be more excited with the results.
Volunteers completed a variety of park improvement projects including tree mulching, invasive plant species removal, trail maintenance, trash clean-ups, community gardening and more. Over the course of the day, Austinites gave our cherished parks and outdoor spaces over $247,870 worth of volunteer labor. This is a perfect example of how volunteering can make a huge impact on our city’s underfunded park system.
Local Businesses Step Up for the Parks
We couldn’t have done this without the support of Room & Board, the presenting sponsor of IMPD Spring and our 30th Anniversary. We’d also like to give a shout-out to our other sponsors as well as the 10 local businesses that thanked our It’s My Park Day volunteers with a free or discounted coffee or beer on Saturday. It’s amazing to see the Austin community champion volunteerism and giving back, we feel lucky for all of the love and support.
Didn’t get a t-shirt at your project on Saturday? Donated to get a t-shirt? We’ll mail your shirt directly to your door using the address we have on file. If you need to update your contact information or were unable to get a shirt at your in-person project on Saturday, please send us your name, shirt size and address to tshirts@austinparks.org by this Friday, March 11th.
Thank You, Park Champions!
A huge THANK YOU to It's My Park Day project leaders, sponsors, volunteers and giveback partners for making IMPD Spring 2022 a success. It’s My Park Day Fall will be here before we know it! Save the date for our next city-wide volunteer event happening Saturday, November 5th!
In the meantime, we host open volunteer opportunities in parks across the city on the first Saturday of every month. Check out the infographic below for an in-depth look at the impact we made during It’s My Park Day Spring 2022. We’ll see you in the parks!
