Message from CEO Colin Wallis
Dear Friends,

It's hard to reflect on 2019 when we are living in such a very different time. No one would ever have imagined that we would be in the midst of a global pandemic while our country also fights to dismantle centuries of racial injustice. Whether through good times or challenging ones, there has been one nurturing constant for our community - our parks. Our parks have been there for us - to support our physical health while also providing comfort and respite for our hearts and minds.

Over the past several months, our community has relied on parks, trails and green spaces. They were ready. This is the result, in part, of Austin Parks Foundation (APF) working tirelessly for over 25 years to create safe and vibrant parks in every neighborhood in Austin.

We are incredibly proud of our work in 2019, putting millions of dollars into park improvements and renovations, as well as long-term investments, many in underserved neighborhoods across Austin. This work led to more ribbon cuttings in 2019 than in any year prior. We deployed more than 10,000 volunteers into our parks system, completing more than 300 critical projects in parks across Austin.

We also worked tirelessly with the community to advocate for additional funding to the city Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) budget. City Council recognized and prioritized parks during a difficult budget year, and our efforts resulted in an additional $1 million being added to the PARD budget.

The efforts of our team in 2019, as well as decades of work before, were critical to creating a parks system that has supported our community during the most trying of times. We could not do this work alone. Whether you’re a donor, volunteer, park adopter or advocate, this work was only possible because of you.

At Austin Parks Foundation, one of our core values is inclusivity. We work to equitably engage all Austinites in our work because we recognize the power of diversity in our neighborhoods and parks. Thank you for being part of the APF community, and helping us live this value. We look forward to continuing this work together for decades to come.

With sincere thanks,

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteerism is at the core of our mission and work, and is the strong foundation we were built on back in 1992. Every year, thousands of dedicated volunteers make parks a priority with their time and effort. From our two city-wide It's My Park Day events, to our First Saturday projects, corporate volunteer days, and every project in between - we couldn't be more grateful for their hard work and dedication to getting the work done!

Two City-Wide Days of Giving Back

Each year we host thousands of volunteers in parks all over the city at our two, city-wide It’s My Park Day events. These individual days represent a huge investment in our parks. And the love doesn’t stop with our volunteers!

From free tacos to discounts on coffee, we were fortunate to partner with local businesses who generously gave back to It's My Park Day volunteers. Park lovers have invested significant labor hours into our parks, saving the under-funded Parks & Recreation Department time and money!

Over the course of 2 days in the Spring and Fall, Austinites helped Austin Parks Foundation achieve these big numbers:

Austin Parks Foundation relies on the generosity of our donors and supporters. Without their commitment to our programs and projects, Austin's parks would be in even greater need.
