We are excited to announce that our ‘In the Park’ series is relaunching this summer with expanded programming. The free series returns with Austin’s beloved Movies in the Park after a two-year hiatus, Fitness in the Park and the addition of Playdates in the Park. Each of the programs offers a unique experience for people of all ages to participate in from now through December.

When Austin Parks Foundation began 30 years ago, the organization set out with the goal to improve Austin’s parks by building community through our parks with people at the forefront of our work.

Innovative programming like this series is a key component of that. Parks take a lot of funding and maintenance to keep up and the fruits of those labors are meant to be enjoyed by all members of the community by way of everyday activities and large community events like everyone’s favorite, Movies in the Park.  For over 10 years, APF has brought movies to neighborhood parks across Austin, ensuring that Austinites of all backgrounds have access to free outdoor entertainment. We’ve partnered with Rocket Cinema to present seven showings in different Austin neighborhoods with local food trucks on-site for guests to enjoy. Austin residents and visitors are able to reserve a spot.

Playdate in the Park – created for families with small children

The expansion of the series includes Playdates in the Park. These events are designed to activate families with young children and will include activities such as live story time readings, creative movement, music and more. The next playdate takes place at 10 a.m. on June 8 at Garrison Park.

Playdate in the Park at Dove Springs Park.
