BioBlitz at Zilker Park

Join Austin Parks Foundation and the Hill Country Conservancy, long-time stewards of the Violet Crown Trail and Barton Creek Greenbelt for a bioblitz at Zilker Park and the Barton Creek Greenbelt! A bioblitz is a biological inventory with the goal being to get a count of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms that live in a place. All species collected for this event will be a part of Austin’s participation in the City Nature Challenge – an international, annual four-day global bioblitz where cities collaborate and compete to see identify species!

The event and species schedule is as follows:

8 – 9 AM: Birds and Plants

9 – 10 AM: Insects and Birds

10 – 11 AM: Plants and Insects

11 AM – Noon: Insects and Plants

We’ll kick off each round of species hunting at the Rock Garden parking lot on the hour. Additional parking is available further down Andrew Zilker Rd at the Polo Field and Picnic areas. Please register for the individual shifts you are interested in, feel free to sign for more than one!

Be sure to bring your own water bottle and wear comfortable clothes for walking and potentially getting a little wet! Thank you so much for giving back to our parks and green spaces!

The event is finished.
