Thanks to SXSW for Brush Square Improvements Donation

South by Southwest has made a generous donation for improvements to Brush Square Park, one of their venues during their annual March conferences. The major portion is earmarked for landscaping including irrigation improvements and re-establishing grass in the park. The remainder is earmarked for miscellaneous electrical and technical upgrades. We are thrilled to be working with South by Southwest, with the electrical and technical upgrades to be completed prior to the conference and the landscape improvements coming after the conference in the Spring of 2009. More about Brush Square and current work taking place is posted on our blog.

$2.5 Million for Zilker Park

C3 Presents, Inc., producers of the Austin City Limits Music Festival announced September 9, 2008, that they will donate $2.5 M to the Austin Parks Foundation to pay for Zilker Soccer Field improvements. This 42 acre site is where ACLMF takes place. Beginning in January 2009, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Dept will level the field, install a complete irrigation system and lay down grass sod on the entire site.

The city approved advancing the funds to do the work this year, and APF will reimburse the city via donations from C3 Presents, Inc. over the next few years. The work will not affect other areas at Zilker Park, such as the hike and bike trail.

Find the Perfect Park

Is there an off-leash park in my area? Which parks have swimming pools? We've added a new feature to our celebrated Find-A-Park website that lets you answer these questions and more. Now you can search for parks by amenity, as well as by zip code, area, or name. Of course, it's also fun just to browse the random selection of parks and pictures that show up in the sidebar. A big thanks to our volunteer programmer, Roger Meador, and to all those who have contributed text and photographs! Check it out.
